Season Update from Commodore Chuck Smith

Published on 5/12/2021

Good day CB2!

I wanted to touch on a lot of subjects to keep everyone informed. So here goes…….

The Happy Hour at Herrington Harbor North on 8 May was a great success! 23 members were on hand and everyone had a great time catching up and discussing the upcoming sailing season. It was a beautiful day, although; it could have been about ten degrees warmer. Many thanks to Carrie and Scott for hosting the event.

The first sailing event is just over a week away. The Fleet Anchorage will be held 22-23 May at Shaw Bay (   38 51.25N  76 11.00W   ) on the Wye River. The long-range forecast, which I know is a bit of an oxymoron, calls for a great weekend. Gretchen and I plan to arrive aboard Tranquility around 1500 on Saturday. We will be supplying an assortment of heavy hors d’oeuvres, sodas and water. Once there is a more complete list of registrants, I’ll put out an email next Wednesday coordinating side dishes and desserts among the participants. The theme will be ‘Under the Sea’ if you’d like to be creative, but most certainly not required. Please register on the CB2 homepage as soon as possible.

The DelMarVa Loop planning is coming together. The published plan is to meet at Summit North Marina on 10 June, however; several club members will be anchoring on Still Pond on the evening of 9 June. The fleet will depart late morning to arrive at Summit North by 1500 on the 10th. This is completely optional, just publishing it as an option. There are several boats registered for this event and if you have decided that you would like to be a part of this adventure, it is not too late to register. If you want to do the BOLD 2021 trip, please email me or Carrie Kleinjan because with less than a month until departure, we’d like to personally bring you up to speed on the details that have been planned out.

I have received questions regarding CB2 merchandise, such as shirts, hats and burgees. I am building a line of items created by Maryland Monogram. So far there are blue polo shirts and ball caps available with a logo based on the CB2 burgee. TJ Morrissey is handling the burgees and hopefully in the near future there will be an order form created for the CB2 website.

There is no scheduled event for Memorial Day weekend, but if anyone wants to put out a suggestion for a get together; please email me and I’ll put out the word via a club wide email.

Finally, all planned events for the Fourth of July in Rock Hall are a go! The firework display is scheduled for 2100 on Saturday 3 July. CB2 has the main pavilion reserved at Haven Harbor for a cookout on 4 July. Please register on the CB2 website and make your slip reservations soon because transient space is filling up rapidly. If you want to anchor out and dinghy in, Swan Creek is beautiful, but space tends to fill up. If you do make a slip reservation with Haven Harbor, be sure to mention that you are a CB2 member so the harbormaster can try to get our slips near each other.

I hope to see many of you at Shaw Bay on Saturday 22 May!

Cheers,

Chuck
